Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty spoke to his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on Thursday, expressing hopes for the defusing regional hostilities and preparing the ground for their countries’ next high-level strategic summit.
The call, confirmed by Egyptian officials, was primarily focused on bilateral matters and common regional challenges. Abdelatty and Fidan were both interested to know if their countries are getting any closer to realizing commitments under the first meeting of the Egypt-Türkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, last held in Cairo last February by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The top diplomats expressed optimism about taking up groundwork for the council’s next meeting, scheduled to be held in Türkiye.
Apart from bilateral affairs, the ministers exchanged views on regional developments and stressed the need for continued Egyptian-Turkish diplomacy to prevent further hostilities from erupting.
Both sides called for enhanced diplomatic outreach to cool off hostilities and stabilize a region already on fire in a number of areas.
On the economic front, Abdelatty and Fidan pointed to the positive momentum in relations between Cairo and Ankara, agreeing to deepen cooperation on trade, investment and economic ties going forward.
The conversation reflects a broader pattern of frequent high-level contact between the two governments since the strategic council’s launch earlier this year, part of a wider rapprochement that has gathered pace over the past several years after a period of strained relations.
Neither ministry released further details on which specific regional files were discussed, though the timing follows a string of similar coordination calls Cairo has held recently with other regional and international counterparts.
Egyptian officials have increasingly framed such exchanges as part of a sustained diplomatic push to prevent further escalation across multiple regional flashpoints while shoring up mediation efforts already underway.
No date has yet been announced for the upcoming Strategic Cooperation Council meeting in Türkiye.
